Formula Woman Newsletter - 24th August 2022
Quite a busy newsletter this week, so please read carefully so as not to miss out. A couple of the main points, the Formula Woman Portal, a very important part of the competition and the assessements days and dates.
The Boot Camps and Trackdays have been a huge success and there is an announcement about these for the rest of the year.
TRACK DAYS & BOOT TOURS
The demand for One to One, Introductory and Boot Tour Days has exceeded the days we have available. We are virtually full for both August and September,
However, we are putting on several days towards the end of September, all of October and the beginning of November.
For those of you who are training hard for your assessment day in November, we want to help you to be well prepared.
Our chief instructor and McLaren development driver Katie Milner is putting together a list of all those who would like to have some tuition and coaching. If you are one of these competitors, please contact Katie to get on to our priority list. As the dates and venues are secured, Katie can then contact each of you on the list prior to the dates going on to our weekly newsletter.
Katie@f1.co.uk
COMPETITION V COMMUNITY
We are aware that some of you don’t wish to enter the competition in November, but just want to be a part of The Formula Woman Community.
Formula Woman is about growing our community across the globe. Currently our team are developing more opportunities to attend and be involved with our core team as representatives.
So far, we have members from 42 countries, nearly all of whom have become dedicated Formula Woman supporters.
Next month we will be announcing our junior membership for all young ladies under the age of 17 who want to start early!
Mara@f1.co.uk
PERSONAL SPONSORS
Last year we encouraged applicants to look for personal sponsorship to offset their costs of travel and accommodation. Many used their sponsors to fund their on-track training.
This worked extremely well for some and in return we placed their sponsors branding on the helmets for their assessment, which was picked up by the onboard TV cameras.
This year we are suggesting you wear your sponsors branded cap and/or T shirt
As everyone will be doing a direct PTC (piece to camera) to test your media skills. The footage captured will be available to you for social media use and available to Formula Woman for TV coverage if you make it through to the finals.
THE FORMULA WOMAN PORTAL
For all those in the competition, you must complete the basics of motorsport as well as the health team section. Each section gives you a certificate when completed and everyone attending assessment days should make sure they have completed all the online courses.
For our members from the UK, the initial assessment days will be 23rd November and 24th November. These will be held at Bedford Autodrome.
For members from Europe and overseas who are travelling to the UK, your assessment day will be 30th November at the same venue Bedford Autodrome (nearest airports are Luton and Stansted).
The UK assessment days are open to members who have joined since 18thSeptember 2021, plus those who were unable to attend last year and asked to postpone until 2022.

COMPETITION V COMMUNITY
Last year’s Formula Woman competition was won by four very talented young ladies who are now competing in GT Cup in their DTO McLaren GT4 race cars. This year’s competition has now commenced, as can be seen from the closing date countdown timer on our website - Formulawoman.com, starting with assessment days in October (North America) and November (UK and Europe)
Most of the new Formula Woman applications from around the world are from women who are hoping to enter the new competition with a view to going racing and learning how to become a race driver.
Some of our applicants past and present simply want to improve their driving skills and have fun learning with other like-minded women. The desire to grow the Formula Woman community globally is amazing and we welcome all new and existing members to grow the community with our team.
Whether you are competitive or not, we will have many exciting opportunities coming your way in 2023 and beyond.
Although we are excited about the remaining GT Cup races, the forthcoming Boot Tours and of course the Formula Woman assessments in 2022, we would like to support you all to engage via your social media and invite you to join us at some of our gatherings in the near future.
SOCIAL MEDIA AND YOUTUBE
Did you know that Formula Woman has its own YouTube channel?
Why not have a look at some of last year’s applicants who did their PTC’s (Piece to Camera).
These were done for TV and guess what?... we need the new applicants to do the same please.
You can do this on your phone at work, home, at a race track or even on holiday.
Simply say your name, where you are from , what you do for a living and anything funny or of interest!
There are some merchandise prizes for the best 6 PTC’s!

NORTH AMERICA AND GLOBAL ASSESSMENTS
It is likely that North American applicants will have a choice of either undertaking their assessment in North America or choosing to come to the UK on the 30th November prior to the finals which have now been set for 5thDecember.
Last year, our GT Cup winner Erika Hoffman did her assessment near Toronto and made it through to the finals. Sara Misir chose to come over from Jamaica to our UK assessment and also made it through to become a GT Cup driver.
We recognize that last year many overseas applicants competed and trained in the UK and had a holiday at the same time. We want to accommodate you all wherever you are in the world!

FORMULA WOMAN ANNOUNCEMENT
All applicants from last year and this year please read on regarding the 22/23 Formula Woman Competition.
THE COMPETITION
Motorsport is not cheap and relies very much on sponsorship. The Formula Woman concept allows women with a passion for driving to enter motorsport at a cost-effective level.
The £99 access fee not only gives you access to the Portal and membership pack, but also gives you the chance to undertake a free assessment at a track in the UK or possibly a track near you if you are overseas. However, many of you secured personal sponsors to help you with travel and accommodation and also training, which of course we encourage.
For those in last year’s competition, who didn’t make the final and who would like to have another attempt, there will be a £75 admin fee to guarantee your place. For those who made the finals, providing you have registered your interest with Formula Woman, you will receive a free assessment day.
For all new members, you will automatically be allocated an assessment day very soon at a track as close to you as possible. In North America, these assessments will take place at the end of October and the UK assessments will be in November.
If you get through to the finals, these will take place in the UK at the end of November or possibly the first week of December. Last year we didn’t leave enough time between the finals and the season commencing, this year the time in Jan through to April will give us sufficient training time to get the winners up to speed.
THE TRAINING
Formula Woman will be arranging training days at circuits across the UK and also some of our assessment day tracks overseas will do the same.
The Boot Tour we operated recently was a huge success and offered training on the track, in karts, on the simulator and included a sponsor workshop. A further boot tour was recently announced for September and this has filled up very quickly. It’s likely one more will be arranged in October.
The one-to-one training and introductory course at circuits around the UK are also becoming very popular and in motorsport terms are extremely good value, as they are subsidised by our partners Trade Centre Group.
We encourage all applicants to get on track, go on simulators, get fit and prepare well. Whether you train with Formula Woman, other driver coaches, attend track days and increase your fitness levels, being well prepared will help you reach the finals.
Some applicants just want to engage with the global Formula Woman community, so the assessment days allow you to meet like-minded women and have a lot of fun together!
THE PRIZE
There will be two separate prizes this year!
Dependent on what you disclosed on your application form, you will be entered into either green or blue sectors.
Green is for novices (two made our GT cup team) and Blue is for those who have had some experience (two made our GT Cup team) One prize is for blue and one prize is for green.
….and for all finalists that don’t make the 2023 Formula Woman team, a free testing contract will be offered along with some Sparco kit…. Everyone’s a winner!
For clarification on the above….

Formula Woman Newsletter - 16th June 2022
This week's newsletter is finally here and what a week we have just had. Fabulous to see our winners out on track and taking part in their first race weekend.
If you missed the report early this week, read on plus more information on what is available for FW Applicants.
INCREDIBLE FIRST OUTING FOR THE TRADE CENTRE FORMULA WOMAN GT CUP TEAM AT SNETTERTON
The Trade Centre Formula Woman GT Cup team had its first outing this weekend at Snetterton as the four winners of the competition competed in their first race meeting.
Leading up to Snetterton, the four drivers went through intensive testing to prepare them for the races, where they were to get their first taste of a motorsport race weekend.
The Trade Centre Formula Woman Race Team arrived at Snetterton with high hopes and Friday saw Jodie, Erika, Steph and Sara undertake their first practice session. The DTO Motorsport run team had a great start with the Trade Centre Wales #65 car of Sara Misir and Steph Sore finishing 15 out of 25 with a time of 2:00.942 and The Trade Centre UK #64 car of Erika Hoffmann and Jodie Sloss 24th with a time of 2:03.342.
This proved a great starting point and as the weekend progressed, and the drivers became more familiar with their surroundings, the times continually improved and they qualified 10th and 11thin their group.
The first race on Saturday was the 25-minute Sprint Race where the two Trade Centre Formula Woman Mclarens lined up on rows 12 and 13 with The Trade Centre UK #64 car 24th and The Trade Centre Wales #65 car 25th.
From here they made great progress finishing in 19th for car #64 and 20th for car #65.
The next race was the Pitstop Race, with car #65 starting on the 10th row in 20th and car #64 starting on row 11 in 21st. Both cars had a successful race and moved up the grid to finish 19th for #64 and 20th for #65 with very respectable Pitstop times.
Sunday saw a repeat of Saturday and with even more confidence the two cars qualified in 10th and 11th in their group translating into row 12 for the Sprint race for both cars. Both cars moved up ultimately finishing a couple of places higher in 20th and 21st.
The final race on Sunday was the Pitstop Race where both cars finished 21st and 22nd.
Steph Sore started car #65 for the pit stop race, made an amazing start and dipped in to the sub 2 mins and started mixing with the GTH class running in a respectable 5th in class before the pitstop where she handed over to Sara Misir. Sara got pushed wide on the exit of Riches and picked up substantial tyre rubber which gave her some serious vibrations. By the time Sara had cleared the rubber car #65 ended up 10th in class. Meanwhile car #64 in the last race was also nudged in to a spin on lap 1 which dropped Erika Hoffman down the field.
#65 Sara Misir: “I could not have asked for a better debut weekend. I went out there, improved on my personal best each time I went out, and learnt so much every time. My coach was happy, and so was my team. So that’s a successful weekend for me”
#65 Steph Sore: “I’m so proud of what I managed to achieve at my first race weekend from the first time in the car on Friday I managed to knock five and a half seconds off my lap time and was super consistent. Due to this, I gave some of the other drivers a good battle in the races. None of this would have been possible for us drivers if it wasn’t for the continued support over the weekend from DTO and Formula Woman. All of us women drove amazingly and kept chipping away at our own personal goals.”
#64 Erika Hoffmann: "Really happy with my first ever race weekend. So many firsts checked off! We progressed greatly throughout the course of the weekend and were able to reach the goals we set out. Can't say enough good things about DTO and The Trade Centre Formula Woman team and their support."
#64 Jodie Sloss: “Overall this weekend and for the whole team it was a huge positive with how much we have all progressed as drivers. Being my first ever race I’ve learnt so much and despite the huge learning curves, I’m really impressed with how much I’ve taken in. I used this to my own advantage over these last few days setting personal best times throughout the weekend and keeping a good pace. Huge thank you to the whole team for their endless support and encouragement”
Graeme Glew, Founder and CEO of Formula Woman commented, “From arriving at Snetterton for Friday testing to the end of racing on Sunday both the DTO and Formula Woman teams ran like clockwork. Every session, all four Formula Woman drivers improved their times to the point we were on the pace with the other GTH class drivers on the Sunday pitstop race. I’m incredibly proud of Erika, Sara, Jodie and Steph, we were the only novice drivers in the whole field racing against pro drivers with years of experience, quite amazing. I’m also now satisfied we selected the best four from the competition entry of 1000 plus. They can now call themselves racing drivers.”
The next round of the GT Cup is at Oulton Park on the international circuit with testing on the 8th July and the Sprint and Pitstop race on the 9th July.

2022/23 ASSESSMENTS AND FINALS UPDATE
Many of you have been asking about the 2022/23 competition and how it will work this year.
We will be confirming dates and venues very soon, but the assessments are likely to take place in November and so will the finals.
The gap between last years assessments and the finals didn’t allow us to give the winners adequate training which is why we had to miss the first two GT Cup events.
This time there will be two prizes one for drivers who have had some limited experience and one for complete novices or ‘rookies’.
We are currently looking at all the overseas applications so that we can find a venue local to you to undertake your initial assessment. This worked well for Canada’s Erika Hoffmann who ended up winning the big prize and is now one of our elite McLaren GT4 drivers …and yes she was a complete novice and completed her first ever race at Snetterton in GT Cup last weekend!

They recognised that the opportunity to take the title sponsorship of our race team was a great fit for their brand principles as diversity and inclusion are very important to them.”

Tim Carr, CEO of The Trade Centre Group commented, “We are excited to extend our support of Formula Woman, as the main sponsor for the 2022 GT Cup Team. For The Trade Centre, our sponsorship is focused on providing opportunities for women in a male-dominated sport.”

Everyone at The Trade Centre will be following the team’s GT Cup success with interest as racing commences at Snetterton in June”.
